Hello, I have an iPhone 5 jail broken on iOS 6.1.2. My phone just notified me that I am running out of free space, but I don't know what is taking up that space! Attached is my usage in settings…can anyone help? I tried icleaner and got almost nothing back.

This is quite frustrating but any help is
appreciated thanks!

(It won't let me post all the screenshots I have, but below that is basically 12 more apps that are all less than 20mb in size.)

Do you have a lot of mms/iMessage pictures on your phone? Download iFile and browse to /var/mobile/Library/SMS. Check how big the attachments folder is; that is all the mms/iMessage pictures/videos is located

Thanks! I just checked, it says 24,845,912 bytes. I'm not sure how big that is in gb or mb but it shouldn't be too big as this iPhone is only a week old (set up as new) thanks for the tip though! Maybe it's something else?

That's around 20MB. How big is your other? And what tweaks do you have installed? You can use appinfo from cydia to export a list

And iTunes is showing a whopping 7.4gb of "Other" right now…that's more than half the phones capacity!

When using iCleaner, which did you have checked? Try de-syncing your music library and re-syncing it.

Have you sshed or downloaded any huge amount of file(s) into your device?

I have downloaded files onto my phone from safari…but only very small things like 2-3 songs and a few GBA games (5mb max)

I tried un-syncing my music with no luck. Here's what iTunes says:

Here's what it says:

Pretty much the same thing iTunes says…is there anyway for me to browse the insides of my phone sorted by file size or something?

the only way i can think of this being accomplished is copying all the files from the device onto your computer and using a program or whatever to sort it by file size

edit: you can give this thread a try: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1000943/

edit2: and yep, it works! give it a try

If you are using whatsapp, try clearing all the media files as it will take up space in "others" too.

And install RespringCacheFix might help as well.

You need to install Respringcachefix from Ryan Petrich's repo. There's a bug in the iOS where every time you respring, MB's of junk cache files build up unnecessarily. Over time, it turns into GB's over time that never get deleted.

Install it and respring several times. Then recheck the "other" data. I guarantee it'll be significantly smaller. Please post your results. I'm interested in the outcome. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.

You beat me to it lol! I bet that'll free up a couple GB's since it looks like the OP never installed it.

I thought iCleaner clears the cache that respringcachefix also clears

I never knew that. I'm pretty update to date on the jailbreaking tweaks. It's possible but I never read that anywhere.

I had assume iCleaner does that because it clears "cache" as well. Guess we can find out after the OP installs it and resprings a few times

Oh I thought you read that somewhere.

iCleaner cleans the cache files from apps. Respringcachefix addresses a bug in the iOS. Since normal devices can't respring its a non issue for apple. But jailbreaks respring frequently obviously. In iOS6, the iOS stopped deleting the cache files during a respring. Ryan Petrich realized this and released the tweak. My friend had 4.25 GB of "other" data. I told him to install this tweak and it dropped it down to a more normal 1 GB.

Thanks for the tip...I installed it, and have respringed 10 times, restarted twice, and still no luck. In fact I have only 275mb available instead of 450mb previously. Any other ideas?

This is my next step...trying it now! :apple:

EDIT: This worked! Thanks a lot! I figured out what the culprit was too...I was downloading 3 torrent files a while ago, and they never finished downloading (bad seed). In fact, only about 30mb worth downloaded, but for some reason iTransmission tricked iOS into thinking the entire files had downloaded thus tricking iTunes into thinking my phone was out of space.

Also, the command found this file to be about 500mb:

244535951 /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.dyld/dyld_shared_cache_armv7s

Does anybody know if I need this Cache or if I can just delete it? It'd be nice to have another .5gb of storage!

Thanks again!

I waited for more than 10 minutes on FileCounter "Please Wait..." loading screen then it just crashed on my iPhone 5. Horrible.

Whoa! I never would have thought iTransmission would do that. I've never used it but it seems silly to claim space when in fact there's nothing there.

I wouldn't delete that dyld file just yet. If you look at the picture in Cydia for FileCounter, it shows that file (or something very similar). If its on the dev's device then its probably suppose to be on your device too. If someone knows for a fact its safe to delete then I'd also like to know. It's a huge file.

Is this something that affects all jailbroken iPhones? Is this program something everyone should have to avoid space being taken up after a respring? I have icleaner and run it everyonce and awhile. Does it clear this respring stuff? Or so I need this other one? And if I do how do I get it? Thanks in advance!

Sometimes after a reboot or respring when I go into usage I notice 300-700 mb's difference in space that is sometimes more space or less. It's always kinda bugged me. I wonder if this is the respring cache data fluctuating?

Use the gawk and SSH/terminal line

I think it works like windows in the part where the OS allocates space to the file to make sure there's enough space. Likewise how deleting a file isn't actually deleting it. It's just telling you the space is free to be used

Yes, it affects all jailbroken iPhones on iOS 6.1+. I thought iCleaner clears the cache respringcachefix does but bumpy says it doesn't. You need to add Ryan petrich's repo to install it

I'm kinda a noob to this sorry! How do I install his repo?
