I got a new iMac i7 8g ram. So far, it has run flawlessly. I've gotten pretty busy with it...and still there is no indication that there is any active cooling. The back of the computer gets a little hot, but not real.

Should there be a fan running? And, where could I check?

Thanks!

Don't worry, they carefully designed the iMacs so that it can cool down without the fans running to high in most situations. Since the body is made of Alumin(i)um it's bound to get hot. The fans are running, it's just that they're ultra silent.Trust me, you have nothing to worry about. If you heard the fans on the iMac, that would be a bad thing

You can use iStat to check the temps and fan speeds. Idle fan speeds for the i7 are ~1000 RPM. I have noticed the fans won't speed up until it hits ~70 C and maintains it for a bit.

Thanks! I'll check that app out.
People had "jet engine" fans, flickering or yellow screens, freezing and who knows what all....
I was really sweatin it before my iMac arrived, but....for now, it is PERFECT!
