Do you use silent mode (physical switch on the side) on your iPhone(s)?

Why and when?

Just curious, that’s all 🧐

I use it often enough for it to be really useful for me. Generally in office setup, public transport, while meeting someone. Basically whenever I’m not at home or on my own.

Pretty much same here, and rely on my watch for notifications. If I don’t have my phone on silent, I have the ringer really low.

Not that often. My phone is on silent a lot and I find the phone alerts and other noises from other people annoying (worse are only the idiots on speakerphone in public transit or watching videos on speaker). The few notifications that are important to me (most are just disturbing) I get on my Apple Watch.

The switch on my phone is always silent. If you have your volume up for texts or calls in a restaurant or similar place, it’s rude. If you answer the phone, go away from other people. Nobody wants to hear your conversation.

And, 1000%, people in public places talking on their phone with the speaker on are the worst.

I keep my phone set to silent mode 24/7 unless I'm expecting a phone call or have a 3rd party app alarm set.
Nothing deserves my immediate attention so much that it warrants using annoying audible alarms.

I use it when I need to. Jailbreaking allows me to disable and enable alarms with the mute switch (depending on position) too, so I have complete silence when muted.

I will join the above sentiment, ever since I got my Apple Watch I can count the amount of times I didn't have my phone on silent on one hand. Before, I would have changed it multiple times a day. When I was at home, it was on silent, when I went out, I obviously needed the sound.
