Just a curiosity, and I don’t expect many responses but was just curious.

One of the reasons I purchase the Silver models is due to their not having anodized frames that can chip after a drop, or wear out after polishing. Knowing the risks, I don’t run cases and despite some drops on my Xs Max, have been able to polish the frame back to near perfect a couple times now.

Just curious if others do, and what you find works best. So far I have been using Mothers Mag & wheel polish with good results. Amazing how tarnished these phones get over time!

No, never considered it.

1. I keep it in an Apple leather case. The case fits well enough that grit doesn't get into the case edges.
2. I don't insert the Lightning cable by feel, so there isn't wear and tear around the Lightning port.
3. Even if you're careful, any polish (including Cape Cod cloths) are going to leave polish or whatever else is on the polishing cloth in the open ports on the bottom of the phone, which is not a good idea. With regard to the Cape Cod clothes, which are very gentle and very effective, take a look at the MSDS before you decider that you feel OK about using that on the bottom of the phone or around the side buttons.

That's the thing, I'd be worried about abrasive particles from the polish getting caught in the ports. Probably though it would be fine if only done occasionally. I wonder if anyone's ever tested a phone in an ultrasonic cleaner. (Probably a bad idea!)

I used to have a silver iPhone X and I polished the silver frame; and I used that product too with great results. I now have the 11 Pro Max silver, but I haven't had the need to polish it yet.

Cape Cod cloth seems to be the preferred method by most here. I've never had a stainless phone, so I can't testify to it though.

Overall I think I polish my phone 2 or 3 times a year, unless there is an accident that causes me to need to remove scratches. The abrasive level is not enough for me to worry about, but I am also not worried about pulling small amounts of material away as I smooth out hairline scratches.

To avoid getting polish into the ports or microphone holes, there are ways to avoid this, in the same way people avoid the same issue when polishing a car, collectibles, or similar items of value. Additionally, remember most of these devices are IP rated now to prevent ingress of dust, moisture or other particles. I am not, and have not had an issue with blocking ports, mic, speakers or whatever. The quantity of polish I use per session is often smaller than a pea to polish the entire Xs Max.

Obviously use whatever care you desire for your personal device. I am already risky not using a case, however have had no issues cleaning up a phone after a minor scratch.

Nope. I just wipe mine with microfiber once in a while when it is off from its case.
