So what happens if i get a 3G or 3GS and put my card from my original "2G" iphone SIM chip into it? I'm not in love with the 10$ more monthly plus text package. I'm also fine with the 2G speed as I've got WIFI about everywhere I go on a daily basis.

I'm just interested in the hardware updates! anyone know?

I'm pretty sure the sim card will work not entirely sure though however. As for hardware upgrades, the iPhone 3gs has a complete new ARM cortex A8 CPU @600 MHz from 412mhz, 256 mb of ram compared to 128 and the gpu chip supports OpenGL ES 2.0 (something lime that) so the speed an responsiveness of the 3gs is much better than the 3g and original iPhone.

If the sim card has the 3G logo on it, then it will work fine. Plus, your data plan doesn't come off the sim card you are using, they KNOW what phone you have. You have to pay the extra $10.
