SIM Card with ios5

I upgraded to the 4s and now I want to give my son my iPhone 4. Already did the IOS5 upgrade. Can I just go ahead and move his current number (on his 3gs) over to my iPhone 4 with my old SIM card or do I have to go to AT&T and get a new SIM card for him?
