unless I'm reading something wrong the iphone 8 looks like there will be a sim free version at launch! Not sure about iPhone X.

I think that I will be ordering one 8+ and may wind up getting an X...really just depends on the carrier offerings.

Just check the Apple Store app, looks like that will be the case. Nice I know, I’m on the fence about pre-ordering or waiting to check it out in-stores.

I don't see the option via the app

Check again because it's there. Select "buy a new iPhone on an existing wireless account" once you press that you'll see the 4 major carriers along with "Sim Free".

I see it as an option for the plus.

It's not available for the X but for the 8 it is.

Ahhhh thanks. To bad I can't add them both to my cart right now to make it that much easier at 3 am

That would be great, especially since it would avoid the stupid "upgrade fee" that AT&T and Verizon charge when you buy via the carrier program ...

Why is anyone surprised that the ip8/+ offers the sim-free and it's not offered for the ipX?

Apple wants to sell as many ip8/+ as they can. This is just another push in that direction.

They know/hope that the ipX will sell because for the redesign and the features.

If you want the phone with all the radios you’ll need to temporarily port to Verizon unless they allow sim free at launch but it does not look like they are doing to do they yet.
