Dev-team iphone blog web site is not very clear to me on which tool i need to use.

I have iPhone 3G with 3.0 OS on it. I would like to sim lock so that i can use in my upcoming international trip.

Which tool should I use? Do I need to upgrade to iPhone 3.1 before I sim lock?

Thanks a lot.

I don't know what you mean by SIM unlock, but you'll need redsn0w and the 3.0 and 3.0.1 firmware packages to jailbreak. After you're jailbroken, install ultrasn0w to do a software unlock.

SIM unlock means, i would like to use non AT&T SIM card for phone service as well for Edge/3G service.

I am little confused on redsn0w and 3.0 and 3.0.1 firmware. Should I upgrade my iPhone to 3.0.1 via iTunes first and then run redsn0w?

So here's a single source. ;)

Having heard about the concept of unlocking, he can't possibly have thought he was the first to try it on the iPhone.

That is a good point-and I agree there is a lot of info out there.

One thing I LOVE about MacRumors is there are SO MANY people here that know so much about the hobby.

I am sure I am guilty of posting something I could have googled for. Sometimes I just want a quick answer :)

The only change to 3.0.1 Firmware is the patch to the SMS vulnerability so upgrade to 3.0.1 in iTunes and then use redsn0w (pointing to the 3.0 ipsw) as the modified parts are the same in both versions of the firmware to jailbreak. Then use ultrasn0w for the 3G unlock (2Gs only need redsn0w).

Makes me wonder why Apple couldn't just do deltas ... 225 MB to patch one vulnerability ...

Read this for more detailed version of what I just said.

Dang that was a bit brutal...

Everyone was new once-and it is great to go to a single source and ask a pointed question.

Sorry, I've been waiting to use that site for a while. Besides, the first five links explain the procedure much better than I could.
