Hi,

I was wondering if there is anything like a simple file vault for Mac, that can be password protected and is also not deleted. From what I've seen, there are programs that achieve the first objective, but they are vulnerable to being deleted.

In short ... seeking ... simple, quick, safe, and not deletable.

Ty if anyone has any suggestions.

No, because that functionality is already build into the OS itself. FileVault version 2 encrypts your entire hard drive and with the security enclave in the Apple Silicon only your fingerprint or password can make the data readable.

How to find your FileVault recovery key in macOS

You should be able to create a password protected disk image in Disk Utility. Once it’s created, you can change permissions for the contents to read only using the chmod command in Terminal.

It’s not not a completely robust solution, but should keep you from accidentally deleting or modifying archived files.

Rather than messing with permissions, just do Get Info on the file and Lock it. That's a simple GUI button.

I used disk utility to create a small disk image (only about 10mb, that's all I needed, but it can be whatever size you wish).
Disk utility offers the option to encrypt it and protect it with a password.
Works fine for me.
