Simple iMac Question - Pre-Buy

Hi everybody!

Next monday (October 10th) I will pick up my brand-new 24" iMac from the local Apple Distributor. However, I have some doubts that require some advice

First - Will they let me unpack the iMac at the store so I can check for dead pixels on the spot? (I work in graphic and multimedia design, dead pixels not good).

Second - I want to install Bootcamp and XP (for gaming) on the iMac, is there any way that I can check at the store if my iMac is one of the ones that is able to install XP? Like, if I insert the XPSP2 disc at the store, am I supposed to see anything at all that indicates that it supports it? Thus having the option to say "I don't want this one".

I hope my questions are clear and easy to answer.
Anyway, thanks for any help in advance.

Answers:
First) I think you'll be able to unpack it there if you like, to confirm the screen is OK.

Second) Regarding Bootcamp, all iMacs sold in stores now support this, so there's no reason to worry about installing it. It will work.

So long as it has a Core processor, it can run Boot Camp

There never was a fundamental bug about being able to run BootCamp on Intel iMacs. You'll be fine installing Windows using it. Now, running Windows is another issue altogether. But, you'll be fine.

BTW, I know where Portugal is, you'll notice I live in France .

I thought so myself but not quite, the 24" iMac was having some problems with bootcamp because the Windows Installer does not support the 24" Display native resolution, you would only see a black screen. However, there were some iMacs where the XP install was quite normal. So, it was a matter of luck.

But I can see now that apparently the bug was already fixed by Apple.

PS - sorry gaucho, I didn't realize you were European, of course you know where Portugal is
And yes, using Windows is for games only, OSX is 10 years ahead in any other way.

maybe they have a different policy where you are, but typically the Apple stores aren't going to let you open sealed boxes and try out the computer before you buy it............usually you'll have to buy it first before they'll let you open the box

Right. When I bought mine in Indianapolis, they had no problem with me unboxing it in the store as long as I paid for it first. If there had been anything wrong with it, they then would have just done an exchange right there.

In regard to the Boot Camp on 24", there was never a bug with that. People got all worried and thought there was a bug because some idiots who think they run a Mac website just didn't get the newest version of Boot Camp.
