Hello,

My new 27" 5K iMac (4.2GHz & 512GB SSD upgrade) just landed, WOW! Super impressed already!

Since I ordered is towards the end of last week I have been looking for the best deal for upping the RAM to 16GB (I don't really need 32GB) and using my stock RAM (8GB) with the two new sticks giving it 24GB of RAM total. I can then always upgrade to 32GB at a later date if needs be.

Just looking for the best deal on two 8GB sticks of RAM please, UK buyer.

Cheers

Try Amazon, if something wrong easy replacement/return
wow, prices in UK going crazy, in January I bought G.SKILL 32GB (2x16GB) SO-DIMM DDR4 2666 for £190

A few weeks ago I got this from Crucial:

http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/imac-(retina-5k,-27-inch,-2017)-imac18,3/CT10559862

...cost £140. Works fine (2017 5k iMac, 4.2 GHz i7 bought with 8GB) - just put the new sticks in the two empty slots (the supplied RAM will be in in slots 1 and 3 out of 4.

The thing about Crucial is that they're specifically selling this as an upgrade for that particular model, so you can buy with a guarantee that you're getting the correct type. Its also the same brand - Micron - (Crucial are the retail arm of Micron) as the 8Gb supplied by Apple.

Cheers guys. Looking at Amazon UK price history and its really gone up!

Like _Kiki_ said, it was around £200 for 32GB earlier this year. Is it worth holding out for a price drop or shall I just pick up the 16GB and use the 8GB that came with it also?

I always buy my RAM from mrmemory.co.uk. Nothing but excellent service and I've bought a fair bit from them over the years. If you order in the morning of a weekday, its usually delivered next day, even when selecting the free 2-3 day 1st class service.

Hi guys. Just bougth the Imac 27 4.2 with 8gb of Ram. i like to upgrade to 32gb (for now) my question is if i just need to use 2 slots with 2 modules of 16gb or is better to buy 4 modules of 8gb (that would be a bummer). If not, could I keep the original 8gb in two slots and install the 32 gb in the other 2? I heard that ram works better if all the modules have the same amount of RAM, but i dont know if this is true. Any ideas?
Cheers!

Still not pulled my finger out and bought any yet so had the same question! Was hoping there was a price drop to something similar to the start of the year but its not happened...talk of which, any ideas why the RAM prices of gone up?

Cheers.

They increase price as soon as imac came out (in Italy on Amazon some ram were even out of stock).

The prices of most computer related stuff has gone up over the last year due to the pound taking a bit of a dive. SSD's have gone up noticeably as well :(
