A buddy of mine recently finished up a really nice site that makes it easy to add custom icons for your homescreen bookmarks on the new iPhone or iPod Touch firmware. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

tried it and it works! that's really cool. thanks! just one question. is it safe to use?

Glad you like it. It's perfectly safe to use and won't harm your iPhone in any way. You are within the iPhone terms of use when you use it so you don't have to worry about your phone being bricked in the future because of this service. Also, even if you have the icon SMS'ed to your phone, we don't save your number and you remain totally anonymous throughout the entire process.

You're welcome. No need to pay me, I do it all for my Apple peeps. :D

Sorry if this is a dumb question but are these icons created basically redirects from your hosting site to the URL we specify? I'm confused as to what kind of a tracking system there is or how this works. If your site server were to go down, does that mean the icon, when tapped, wouldn't bring me to the site or have the changes already been made? Or if the server went down, would the Icon made disappear on my display?
Thanks and again, sorry if these are 'dumb' questions!
:)

Not a dumb question. The service works in a way similar to services like http://urlthat.com/ or http://tinyurl.com/. If our server were to go down for an extended period of time, your links would in fact stop working. However, your icons are cached locally on your iPhone or iPod Touch so those wouldn't be affected. We have redundant servers in place for all of our services, so there is very little actual risk of this happening.
