I got to think there's going to be a limit using edge, 3G or even wifi wouldn't make a difference. As I'd think it all depends on how fast the internet connection is at home that your library is connected to.
Like even though my internet is 6mbs, my upload speed is only 768kbs (Elite ATT DSL). So with my library, if Edge manages to dl as fast as 768kbs, depending on signal, using 3G or Wifi wouldn't make one bit of difference at that point.
I haven't used the software, but if the app buffers before playing. And say if I try to play a 40meg file, then at the best 76k a second upload from my home internet, it would take nearly 9 minutes for the entire song to transfer. So if that was a 4 minute song, you'd be looking at 5+ minutes of buffer time, even if I was on wifi at a Starbucks.

your dsl doesn't sound very elite. comcast in new england, paying for a 8mbit/2mbit d/u, getting more like 20mbit/4mbit d/u. edge would be the issue, not home upload speed.
4mbit = 4/8 mbyte = .5 MB/s. Edge can only go a max on the iphone (i think) of around 150kbit/s.
150kbit = 150/8 kbyte = 18 KB/s. 18 KB/s < .5 MB/s
I used it on edge last night while we were all out in the woods with our bon fire.. really awesome. It only buffered for the first few seconds, then i had continuous play/

True, but it's the best residential service ATT offers for DSL in my area:

But it's only like $35 a month, set price. And if I were to go with comcast, paying more a month, I'd also lose out on the 20% off my iPhone voice plan for having a bundle with ATT.
I tried to check Comcast speeds available to me, but out of the options, they only tell you how many times faster it is over 1.5mbs DSL, which I take as only 6mbs when they say 4x faster. No exact numbers or anything about upload speeds as you add this stuff to the cart. Only other options were powerboost features, upto 16mbs on the best plan, but I think that's only for the first 10megs of a single file, then your normal speed. Honestly, I hate Comcast tactics, they try to make DSL look bad by saying it's way faster when in the small print they are comparing their $43-$58 plans to $25 DSL. At least DSL offers different plans to suit what people need. It's like a PC store trying to sell a $3000 gaming PC to a Grandma that just wants to send e-mail to her grand kids.
