Just a quick rundown if you don't know what SM is:
Simplify Media software connects you through iTunes and Winamp
Enjoy music from home while at work or school. Explore friends' music while they are online.
Download
Free – No hidden charges. No spyware. Links let you buy music you want to own.
Easy – Set-up is fast. No need to upload files to a website.
Safe – Only your group can access what you are sharing, and no one can see your other files.
Legal – Files are streamed only within your private group.
Universal – Connect iTunes and Winamp and PCs and Macs without worrying about music format.

And now a post from their blog:
If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, you’ll discover that Apple is releasing firmware 2.0 today and the App Store is now live. Simplify Media is not yet available, but it will be soon. For security and privacy, we encrypt our data streams, and that encryption has added a layer of review to our App Store submission. However, we’ve been testing Simplify Media on our devices and we are excited with the performance of this new version.

As we get more information, we’ll share it with you..

Now I for one can't wait for this. All my music on my iPhone & iPod Touch, eeeexcellent. If you didn't try the 114 Jailbreak version, give this a shot, it's beautiful.

I am a beta tester for this and I cannot say enough great things about this app. I've tested it on wifi and 3g and it's worked flawlessly so far.

The only real negative isn't their fault, which is that it cannot play in the background while you do other tasks as it has to follow the same rules as all the other apps in the store.

How did you manage to test it? I was a tester for the Jailbreak version of the application and would love to know more about this.
Thanks

So to make things clear.

This will allow me to play and listen and choose music on the itunes in my home office from any room in my house.

But thru the iPhone.

?

This sounds great!

Kinda wondered why apple has not done this yet but they have been busy beavers so I can see why.

Not just from any other room, but from anywhere! I use it currently at work to listen to my iTunes library at home. With the iPhone version, it should work all over. At least where there is WiFi or 3G. Not sure it would work very well over Edge, since it's streaming the full files from your iTunes library and not a lower bitrate version.

Super. Thx,

Even Apple store DRM songs?

Dang. This might just become the killer app for the iPhone.

oohh. can you say stream from your car! (if the 3g can keep up)

That's what I want to try out. I've got 3G all over town, so if it's fast and easy, it could almost replace the need for my 'iPod in the glove box' set up through the stereo.

This app is, of course, one of the main reasons why countries without unlimited data plans are screwed. I've gone through almost 1GB of music with this program in one day at work. Though that is through WiFi. But still...wouldn't take long to get through a data plan limit with this app.

It does not do video and so far it has worked flawlessly for me over 3g, even while driving. I qualified for the Beta by reading the blog post referenced in the original post here which includes information on how to sign up, though it's likely that it would be closed by now as it's a very limited beta.

This is what I was hoping Apple's Remote app was when I first heard about it, but it was the opposite.

Will Apple allow this? In the bandwidth hog type apps? Apps are crippled like Youtube and MLB over 3G, did they do that on purpose or did Apple make them? While, the update to BoxOffice today now has trailers and it only suggests 3G or Wifi, and the quality is better than youtube over 3G.

Just wanted to bump this with news from their site:
"We are removing the “beta” label from Simplify Media and transitioning to 1.0. Thanks are in order to the more than 100,000 people on Mac, PC, Linux and iPhone who have helped us test and improve Simplify Media. We are fortunate to have so many supportive users and we remain grateful for all of your encouragement.

Better support for iPhone: Apple has approved our iPhone app, and we will be making it available in about a week in the App Store. To show our appreciation to all of our early users, the App Store version will be free for the first 100,000 people to download it. For people who download it after that, the cost will be $3.99. (The desktop version will remain free for everyone.) In our next blog post we’ll talk about some of the features of the App Store version."

Awesome news!

That's just fantastic. $4 is totally worth it, but I'm looking forward to getting it for free!

That's cool, although I wish they didn't make it free to only a set number like that, and instead just did unlimited free downloads for the first day, or even a set time period (which would be the same no matter what time zone you're in).

The problem with a limited number like that, is that there ARE so many time zones, and certain areas that get apps before others. Also, there are ways to cheat the system and get stuff earlier than when you're supposed to. That could mean that by the time it's normally available on the West Coast of the U.S., the free downloads are all taken up...

Ah well -- I don't mind paying the $4 myself, but others should have a chance to get it free...
