Hi all
i stumbled upon simplify media a long time ago .i got it when the original app simplify music(original) was free. As time progressed i found that it was an greatapp. Soon after i bought simplify music 2 which included new features such as search. Many people were outraged that this was not included as an update in simplify music (original). I didnt mind seeing as i got the original app for free. I felt no distress in supporting the dev seeing that i loved the app.

So on july 10th i stumbled upon simplify photo i didnt buy it :( when i first saw it. I checked later and it was gone from the store
My question is has anybody heard anything about the app Simplify Photo? if so do you know if its going to be put back up on the us store or is it gone for good heres the link about it.

Edit: I also wonder why it was taken down. I was Ina hurry to try the link to and it doesn't exist. LOL

How are they a greedy company?

I feel there greedy because they released simplify media 2 for 5 more dollars when simplify media(the app) was already out and they didn't update the orginal app. They made it so if you want the new features you have to pay for the new app when many have already bought the original app previously.
I know you say wow 5 dollars isn't alot but see simplify media(the app) now it's called simplify music should have been updated with the new features that's why I have a little problem with the company but I still paid for the new app because it just works

I understand where you're coming from. I would say to you that making software is expensive and that virtually all serious software companies eventually charge for major updates. When you buy an application, you are purchasing the current features, not future updates. For example, when you get a copy of Windows Vista, it does not come with a lifetime subscription to get Windows 7 and beyond for free. The same is true for most software.

Many iPhone developers (us included) do our best to provide free updates for as long as possible. I'm sure that Simplify Media put out several updates to the original application before they put out the new version. It's not greed -- they just want to be able to pay their people so they can bring you future updates. :) It's sort of like saying that you bought one of those annual sports games (like a football or basketball game), and that you want all future ones for free because you bought one of them. My intent is certainly not to insult you, rather to give another perspective.

I guess we have different opinions as me being the consumer and you being a dev, but it's good to hear a devs side of things. I just found it annoying and greedy but i guess I have become accustomed to the 99 cent app majority.Which is bad because then apps that are really worth more money are not looked at as much and less are in the top 25. Im happy they have the 99 cent new photo app believe me I think its better than paying 5 dollars. I know the devs work hard and should be rewarded.
I just felt that it should have been put into the old app. They really didn't add many worthwile updates with new features besides bug fixes which are fine also. I feel it could have been added as a paid upgrade for 2-3 bucks not five dollars more. I would not mind paying a few bucks but i mean to pay 5 more bucks for something i basically already have that works good just for a few new features is a bit ridiculous if you ask me.

Just to throw another perspective out there....from both sides of the fence.

I bought Simplify Media after the change, so it really didn't affect me. But, read on....

I use an app everyday in my business that I bought 3 years ago. It's the lifeblood of one of my businesses. The developer works his tail off to get new features in it (almost to a fault). He's never charged an upgrade. Knowing the work he's put into it, and the quality of the upgrade, I WANT to give him some $$, but he won't accept. His income is on new customers, not existing ones. It works for him quite well. I just send him a nice Christmas gift every year (gift certificate to a very nice steakhouse in his area).

OTOH, some companies/developers with software I use daily are just freaking outrageous with the way they handle their user base and upgrades, similar to this bungle that Simplify Media did. They see their installed userbase as their biggest source of income, and not new purchasers. Many other companies/developers do this also, but the company/developer is usually blind to the fact that it doesn't create happy customers in the long run.

Both business models work, but it sure makes me want to (and I do) look for alternatives in the instance of being in the situation of having software developed by the second example.

The really big software companies (like Adobe) have sort of reached a happy medium. Charge heavily up front, medium priced upgrades.

I would hope that the new feature of being able to do an in app charge for features/upgrades would be put to use much like Adobe has done, but I fear that we'll see it's abuse in the future.

I agree -- the middle ground is best. Please don't mistake my earlier post to mean taking care of existing users is not important. Support is very important and improving one's app is too. :)

The only two problems I have with this app is:

1. Couldn't they have made an paid upgrade option for Simplify Music users so I don't have two separate Simplify icons taking up space?

2. No pinch and zoom.

Yep, I think they could do so now for the extra features but at the time, I don't believe the StoreKit functionality was available to developers. I'm not *positive* of this but pretty sure. :)

Didn't at all get that idea, return7.
