Okay, so for the last couple of years, I have been dealing with a less than stellar dell that could never support the Sims 2.

I recently ordered a MacBook (should be getting it tomorrow), and was told that Macs had the best graphic/video cards out there...so Sims 2 should be no problem.

I just now tried searching on google to see if this really was possible, and I don't seem to be getting a clear answer.

Please tell me that a MacBook (not pro)can run Sims 2 without any problems????

Barely using the GMA950. Hope that 10.4.8 includes multi-threaded OpenGL.

Translation?

And the graphics card thing is what I hear from most people, considering it's the standard used in the graphic design industry now...

Since Eidorian keeps using jargon, I'll make it clearer.

The MacBooks (non Pro) feature integrated Intel graphics, likely similar to those on your Dell. They have rather poor 3D acceleration, which means making 3D images in games such as Sims 2 move really fast.

Macs being good at graphic design does not mean they all have stunning 3D performance. It means they're generally considered better at image editing, video editing, and page layout apps, none of which use 3D graphics.

You pretty much could have no 3D acceleration at all still be doing some excellent design stuff.

Theres 3 major aspects of graphics cards:

2D Acceleration: Moving flat images around, drawing menus, lines, simple shapes, etc.
3D Acceleration: Moving objects with more than a single surface around, color and light shading, etc.
Video Acceleration: Decoding movie files and displaying their content quickly.

The Intel graphics cards are good at 2D and Video, but not 3D. 3D happens to be the most intense of the three, but is entirely useless in any program that does not somehow use 3D images (aka almost everything that is not a game). So to make cheaper graphics (and cheaper computers that are still *fast* just not with games) we have the Intel cards with crummy 3D acceleration that Grandma and my accountant are never going to use.

Sims 2 ran like a dog on my Macbook Black with 2GB of RAM. The GMA950 is simply not made for gaming. it ran halo universal badly as well.

Err, generally Mac's are not recommend for gaming. This is where the PC excels!
