Sims 3 install issue

Hey, i cannot get the sims 3 to install on my june macbookpro. 2.8ghz, the nicest 15". i pop in the dvd, go through the stuff, then it starts and stops at around 3 percent. the disc drive quits going and it sits there until i force quit. any ideas?
 
also... i decided i would just create and image of the disc with disk utility to install, good idea or bad?
