Sims 3 installed Sims all look the same!

I am having a lot of trouble using the Sims 3.
I have downloaded it all correctly and I update it all. I then bought and installed Design & High-Tech Stuff.

I have tried to install Sims from the website that are either - just for Sims 3 or just for the stuff pack just to see which one works. When I end up playing the game and creating sims, all of the ones I have installed look virtually the same. None of the hairstyles I wanted, have shown up, they all have the same one.
The clothes work and so does Lots, as I can see and use them, but I don't know why all the ones I wanted look like twins!

I uninstalled / reinstalled both and deleted all of the associated files, but I am completely clueless at this point!

Can anyone tell me why this isn't working? Or what I have to do differently?

Are you talking about custom contents not coming up???
U should just get sims 2 and it's expansion packs
it's better
cheaper
and way more fun!
and i HAVE played both of em...
if ya don't wanna then downloads are just the same as sims 2 downloads
just download, unzip and drag and drop into the downloads folder k. sorry if this pretty lame advice doesn't help
