Hi everyone

like the title says, since i've updated to iOS 13 on my XR (i'm up to date running 13.1.3) the gmail app has a bug on longer email chains where it's like it's freezing up so that the keyboard doesn't pop up and the previous emails don't show up in the body part of the email and pressing on the body part of the screen does nothing.

I've tried deleting my gmail accounts and re-entering the info
I've tried deleting the app and reinstalling the gmail app
I tried a soft reset back when 13 came out and it didn't fix the issue.

the gmail app is up to date as well

this was never an issue on iOS 12. I did some web searching and didn't see anyone with this issue, and i scanned the most recent couple pages of posts here and didn't see anything.

what do i try next to fix it?

huge thanks. As you can imagine it is rather annoying.

i keep hoping an update is going to fix this issue for me or some phone knight on a white horse is going to gallop in and say dude just do ______ and ______ and _____ and presto dragon dead

as of 13.2 today, it is still an issue.

i'm attaching what the gmail looks like when i try to reply to longer threaded emails aka email conversations...i'm not sure the proper terminology

as you can see the body is just blank and both the keyboard and the previous responses are not showing up in the body area like they should.

if i reply to an email with a different subject that was just sent to me aka that doesn't have numerous responses in the email thread the keyboard and previous response pops right up/

thanks.

is the next step for me to plug the phone into a computer and do a restore in itunes from there?

Could the issue be with the Gmail app itself rather than iOS ?

Hey C DM

thank you for attempting to help me figure this out.

yeah the issue could certainly be a glitch or bug with the gmail app. all i know is this hasn't worked since ios 13 and neither further updates to 13 nor updates to the gmail app has corrected it.

if we went with the idea it was the app wouldn't a deletion of the app and a reinstall from the app store fix the glitch?

You can try. Most of the reported issues with email here involve the native mail app, Mail. The problems vary widely and most people experiencing problems have been unable to solve the problems. It's somewhat interesting to me that the Gmail app is experiencing problems, too. Something is fundamentally wrong with how email is being handled in iOS 13.

morning newellj and thank you

yeah i've had to use the native mail app since ios13 update and replying to longer email threads works fine but I only sporadically get notifications and sometimes it shows an error message in the bottom area of the app but the details don't show anything when i try to access them.

what was weird was for about a half hour yesterday the gmail app was working on the longer email threads. I tested it two or three times in that time frame, enough to believe I could stop using the stock app. Then it stopped working again.

I'm a good sport on trying to fix stuff like this and I'll try when i get a chance, but it'll be pretty frustrating it if doesn't work after the time spent like the other people experiencing problems.

I honestly don't know what to say. 13 feels like a beta - take a look at all the reports of problems, affecting a wide variety of apps, native and third party. I hope you can find a solution. One of the things that's crazy is that even the bugs don't seem to be very consistent.
