I ordered from MacMall Aug 9. The 2.8GHz 24". Once again, the ship time has slipped. Now they're not getting them until Sept 6. If then. So I could be looking at end of Sept until I get one. And my G4/800 PowerMac is WAYYYY slow.

So I went and bought a 1.83GHz Mac Mini today. I wanted one for my kids eventually, anyway. Now it can replace my G4 until the iMac arrives. And let me just say, compared to the G4, this thing is FAST! I love it. Now I don't care so much when I get the iMac, since I have a functional computer now.

I was always leary of the mini. Didn't think it was worth the money. Really, though, it's plenty computer. iPhoto whips around, iMovie is fine...even Photoshop (CS3) is VERY usable with it. If the iMac wasn't also coming with a nice 24" display, I'd be tempted to just get another mini...

Did you order direct the iMac from Apple?

No. MacMall. I wanted the $100 rebate. Which will now go to help pay for the mini.

Thank you! This is further confirmation that Apple does have a priority system, in spite of denials from sales people.

I ordered from a Authorized Apple Reseller (unnamed for the time being) as well. I still have not been given a "build" date much less a delivery date from them.

I since have also ordered the same configuration from Apple direct from their online store. I have a "Ship" date of Aug 30 - Sep 4. So far, it has not shipped.

This very same thing happened last year when I ordered a MacBook Pro.

Sorry to have to play devils advocate but what do you expect? Apple's resellers like Mac mall gives special offers like $100 rebates and Apple doesn't.
Since Mac mall gives $$$ rebates you have to expect Apple to offer something to their customers such as priority of product to their customers that order from them directly.
That's what I did, I called Apple's sales department and they ordered my 24" 2.8 iMac on the 13th and it was shipped yesterday which was a day earlier than estimated. The Applecare came a week earlier than estimated.
On something new and this popular it's sort of a no brainer to order it from Apple first.

I have no doubt whatsoever that priority is given to customers of the Apple retail stores and their online store. When supplies are low, the other retailers have to wait. And I suspect there's a pecking order there, too. Best Buy will probably get theirs before MacMall.

It's annoying, but for cheap people like me...well, I've come to expect the wait. At least I have the new mini to tide me over.

I bought my mac Aug. 20(? Around there). And It was supposed to arrive Sept. 5. It shipped at the beginning of this week and came from Shanghai to Southern California in one day. Go figure.
