I’m a little confused and I think I do know the answer, but could use the confirmation on it. I know Apple Intelligence is available this fall on certain hardware. What is Siri looking like right now with the iOS 18 developer beta? ChatGPT isn’t available now in Siri, right As this is going to be part of the Apple Intellingence movement? Can anyone confirm this right now? Thank you.

From my understanding, Apple are using their own LLM that is designed around your contents. Anything outside of that they rely on chatGPT. I would imagine this partnership is limited as Apple will no doubt expand on their own LLM over time.

Or, Apple could use AI like different search engines, and each one will come with its own advantages. Anybody's guess right now.

Apple Intelligence with ChatGPT integration comes at a later date in a limited preview beta (e.g. not everyone gets access right away, waitlists etc.) for devices set to U.S. language only.

ChatGPT and Apple Intelligence are intervened. People assume that non-A17 Pro / Mx devices get access to ChatGPT but that is not confirmed. Their whole marketing around this always point at ChatGPT being tied to the Apple Intelligence package (the on-device LLM decides if your request needs to be offloaded to ChatGPT), so this is most likely hit with the same device requirements as Apple Intelligence (until confirmed otherwise).

I mean if the ChatGPT integration was available for all devices running iOS 18, they would‘ve paraded that around and made it clear instead of having the final „coming to these devices only“ wrapping up their AI portion of the show.

I hope chatgpt integration will be available to every iphone since it's just a web service that can run inside a browser

I appreciate that people want to use it, but I'm hoping that it can be completely disabled. I want nothing to do with chatGPT, and I don't want to send/receive any inquires to/from them, anonymously or otherwise.

On the Apple website it appears on the AI page which says 15 Pro only rather than the general iOS 18 page, so I doubt it.

I think that you'll need to provide your api key to use chatGPT, so it should be opt-in

Depends on how they implement it. If it’s the local model that chooses what context to send over to chatgpt, then it might not be available. I wouldn’t want openai to have unrestricted access to everything on my phone.

I posted this in the other AI thread, but good for here too.. What's interesting, in MKBHD's new video, he asked about the integration with OpenAI, and how much is done on device, etc.

He was told that almost everything is done on device (so this is clearly why RAM is a factor in things), from Apple built models, and that gives fast responses, etc (whereas the Android devices pushing most of it to the cloud will have slower responses and poor signal will make that even worse) - so to me, it's clear they're aiming for a best user experience with this..... they say that anything that is too complex to run on device, or outside of Apple's on device model's expertise it can try and use Apple's Private Cloud Compute.

If it thinks it's something ChatGPT can do better, it will ask the user if you want to use ChatGPT - and it will ask each individual time. It's not a 'say yes once and it will use ChatGPT whenever', it asks you every single time to confirm if you want to use ChatGPT - which is nice to know, if you never want to use ChatGPT, you just say no. Also, OpenAI is not allowed to ever store any of the requests and your IP address will be obscured, so OpenAI cannot connect multiple requests to profile you.

Are old devices staying on the old Siri style/graphics/UI look and feel? Or are getting all devices the new Siri Look&Feel (like glowing colors arround the phone border when activating Siri), but with the lack of all the Apple Intelegence features?

Old devices won’t get AI powered Siri. At minimum will have same Siri as now. Not known if there may be some improvements to basic Siri though.

As for look and feel, not clear yet, unless I’ve missed something, but would make sense that old Siri keeps old look and AI Siri uses the new look.
