Siri is definitely smarter

Last night while driving, I used "hey Siri" to send a message to my wife describing my burrito order. I said "I'd like a chile verde carnitas super burrito". Siri got the entire message correct the first time (and the dictation was nearly instant). Never before was I able to mix Spanish and English in a sentence like that. I was impressed!

In general, Siri in iOS 10 (and Watch OS 3) is much improved. I'm noticing faster performance, more accurate dictation, and more flexible understanding of my phrases. It's not perfect - my wife reports it gets tripped up when she asks Siri to text me, but I think that is a specific quirk that needs an update to sort out.

Has anyone else noticed improvements like this?

I have noticed Siri is much more fluent and natural sounding. I have to test the over all dictation responses.

Depends. Siri is great for dictation and commands for core functions. But I keep the Google search app on my home page and go right to that if I need to find a business.

Use each for what it's good at.

Mixed feelings with Siri, she does not understand basic stuff like "What time will it rain today". Haven't tried dictation in Spanish and English though, will give it a try!

I got annoyed with Siri always activating, so wanted to turn it off. Easy, I thought, just tell Siri to turn off Siri.

All I got were smart-ass comments like "Oh dear, have you found a new assistant" and "I hope it wasn't something I said."

My phone clearly knew what I wanted to do, but Apple have clearly made it so it won't actually turn it off.

The smart replies quickly wear very thin. That's where Google wins for me - it does what you want without answering back.

It's not the robot that gets to me, it's the people that program the robot. Apple shouldn't go to the trouble of programming it to understand the request to "Turn off Siri" if they're not going to action it. It'd take more time to write the smart-arse comments than to just program the phone to turn off Siri. As requested.

Siri's from California. She probably orders Mexican a lot.

Siri now pronounces my name wrong. I told it a few years ago how my name is pronounced and it offered three different pronunciations of which I could choose one. A couple of weeks ago it seems to have forgotten it and when I ask it to change it again, it won’t even offer me the correct pronunciation anymore. In fact, it just offers me two identical pronunciations and these are the same ones that it uses currently. From three pronunciations to just one. It won’t accept anything else. It’s not even an exotic name, just a name that is pronounced a bit differently in certain languages (such as my native language). Very frustrating.

I also think that Siri integration with apps like Skype or Facebook Messenger is disappointing. It doesn’t at all recognise nick names or relationships when I ask, for example, to call ‘my mum’ or ‘call my brother’. It just responds with that it ‘cannot find my mum’ (literally this, not ‘your’ mum or anything else) in the contacts. I still have to be very specific about the contact name.

I am not sure why I still bother with Siri at all. It is clearly just not fit for purpose and still nothing more than a glorified voice control.

You have to tell Siri the relationship beforehand. "Emma is my daughter", etc. After that, anytime you want you can say, "text my daughter".

I know that and it works with Messages, Phone, Mail etc. But not with Skype or Facebook Messenger. I suppose it is a limitation of the API.

I would say Siri is more responsive and can do a few more things. But I would not say Siri is smarter. Siri really needs to get smarter to be more useful.
