This started a couple weeks ago. All devices. I can no longer say “play 90’s music” and get it. Just French rap. 80’s, 00’s, all fine. No 90’s.

Anyone else?

Definitely something mixed up in the itunes database.

Play 80’s music works fine.

No one knows why Siri is as bad as it is. There have been dozens of times where I tell it to play a song, it doesn’t work, I tell it again with the exact same words, and it works. Hopefully the upcoming “upgrade” fixes many things. I just don’t see how they can go from borderline unusable to good. My expectations are very low

Because they are giving Siri a brain transplant from a semi-static, old tech language model to a current LLM AI.

Anything beyond "setting a timer" or "turn on/off noise cancellation" is basically something I don't even bother trying anymore.

I with they'd actually worry about making it good/great at basic useful commands before anything else with AI, etc

Also, oddly, I have better luck with the "basic Siri / voice assistant" on my old iPhone SE1s for some reason
The voice is robotic and weird, but it responds quickly and more correctly very often than my iPhone 13 Mini

Same. Basic commands are fine. Anything beyond that, I don't even try anymore. Even requests that should be spoken - always say "I can't do that from here but if you unlock your iPhone" blah blah blah.

maybe siri is interpreting the way the words '90s' sounds as a similar sounding phrase/word in french?

full disclosure: i dont speak:understand french.

Sure sounds like Apple really needs to force feed some dogfood down at Apple HQ. They need to Oprah some Homekit gear and require employees to suffer as well.

X.0 releases should also be exclusively and forcibly pushed to all employee phones before public release. That should encourage them to put out better quality releases for public consumption.

The fastest way to improve Siri for basic or advanced uses is to replace most of the code with an LLM. That will make it more flexible and accurate in interpreting your request. It can also use the LLM to scan the abilities of a series of services for matching abilities. SirAI will be making a lot more use of the App Intents system whereby apps can advertise their abilities and how to call them to get results. An LLM-based Siri can match those abilities to your requests more accurately than the current rigid system.
