Siri ported on an iPhone 4 (not S)

I think it is only a matter of time before they get it working.
But this port has debunked the story Apple is selling, that the iPhone 4 is not powerful enough to run Siri.

I don't think apple ever said the reason Siri isn't on the iPhone 4 is because of power. Their answer was a very fuzzy "Siri was developed alongside the iPhone 4S blah blah blah".
 
My iPhone 4 runs a heck of a lot faster after upgrading to ios5. I never buy in to the "s" upgrades because I know the next significant upgrades are a mere months away.

This is just icing on the cake...I hope it gets to run normally soon! :)
 
From what I've read siri worked on the iPhone 4 as a reduced version with many things diluted down to make it work for developers to test.

Im more prone to think it will work on the iPhone 4 but just not as quick as on the iPhone 4s.

some info sites have already reported that the hackers community have managed to port siri onto the iPhone 4 and are now in the throes of making it work and were waiting for the iPhone 4 s to come out so they could look into the guts of the software.

Its a challenge to them to make it work.

3G to 3GS was legitimately a huge speed increase though. That one was definitely worth it.

Older technology though....so at the time it was a significant boost. Since technology advanced a lot more since then, your not really going to see the limitations in speed on the 4:cool:

All that the video proves is that the basic Siri UI will work on the iPhone 4. Let's wait until we see a video of Siri actually being used before we jump to conclusions about how well it runs.

Since the query processing does not work yet, there is really no point in saying anything to Siri right now. I would say dictation probably works very well, since it doesn't really take that much processing power.

This is exactly right. I had Siri too on my 3GS and it worked just fine. Apple is just using it as a carrot to coax people to upgrade when the rest of the updates are not too special. Another example of their amazing ability to market and sell.
 
At what price?

Assuming Apple did eventually offer Siri for other devices, at what price do you think Apple would offer it for? What would you consider to be a fair price for such an option?

Ok if you think 381 days (13 months) are mere months away (3GS-> iPhone 4), then yeah go ahead and wait.

The processing is done in the cloud, so it won't be CPU intensive. That's why it has to connect to Apple's servers.
 
The IPhone 4 can easily run siri, it carries out processor intensive tasks SERVER side, not locally on the phone. With that being said, Apple is not going to offer SIRI to the IPhone 4 cheaply, as it will surely overload their servers. Think about it, if launch day crippled Siri - imagine what activation of the millions of regular iphone 4's would do to their beta siri servers?
