Sirius/Streams on iPhone

I figured out a way to use Sirius on the iphone but windows is necessary :mad:.
What I did was set up a orb account and use usirius which gives you the MMS feeds, which you then take and input into an internet radio stream on the orb control panel. Works well over edge, only downfall is you cannot recieve calls while streaming.

Basically you goto mycast.orb.com and then login and do a speedtest so it compresses properly, you then select your streams that you added with the proper mms feed. If anyone knows another way to access mms feeds please let me know.
 
I've heard word that this guy is working on Sirius for the iPhone and OSX.

Check the forums there. I'd like to know how the development is going myself.

No you can do it with Mac also.
Just save the clips to MP3 and either upload or use your computer as a server.

Also I think if you are running a server at home it would be easy.
Just connect your audio out to audio in on you mac and select the audio in as you source.
Just run Quicktime Broadcaster as an HTTP stream. OR embed the audio in a web-page. Or use other software to create the stream.

I don't have an iPhone yet so haven't tried anything, but since it seems to be able to play MP3's in a web-page it should be easy to find a way.
 
Any word on any work around for XM users such as myself? I find it odd people would leap to make Sirius work first when there are far more XM users out there. :confused:

Not anymore. They are now almost even. XM had 53% with 8.2 million subs, and Sirius with 47% 7.1 million subs.

This is from 70% to 30% 2 years ago.
and 87% to 13% 3 years ago.

(all numbers are from 6/30/ each year)

Interesting...I obviously have not been keeping up on my sat rad message boards lately...I have been spending too much time here. ;)

Regardless, my allegiance is with XM and have been craving a way to get it on my iPhone since June 29th.

Well once the Merger goes through we will all be one big family, with access to more channels at the same price!!

But I'm Happy with Sirius, still *all* commercial free music channels, all sports except baseball (and I'd rather listen to paint dry than *hear* a baseball game)
And also Howard Stern!, although I am finding I am listening to more Music (but it may be because its summer, and the kids are almost always around)

But the same premise should work the same for XM. Play XM on your Mac (or a PC) and serve or upload the content for your iPhone to receive.

I hope there is a way in the future for people to just use the webstream direct from the iPhone, but since they use WindowsMediaFiles for their stream I don't see Apple adding that support ever, and cant see Sirius or XM making an iPhone stream.
 
Sirius on XBOX, why not iphone same way?

Sirius can be run on the XBOX & I'm sure it's not java.
Is there any way to take the "RunSirius.py" python script & use it in the same way on the iphone? (Using the same idea & "backdoor" access)
 
The Orb idea is fantastic.... now only if we can manage to get an Orb port to Linux. It also surprises me that there isn't an iTunes port for Linux. Gtkpod doesn't play nice with the iPhone. But anyhow, would be nice if there was a way to actually download and play clips from various websites aswell as streaming XM radio from the safari browser.

I believe you can use the same method for XM. I think there is a uXM (can't access from office) so you'd have to check.

Supposedly the next version of the software will bypass the need for Orb. However, I'd really rather you could either run natively from the iPhone, or run as a third party app on the iPhone. The former being the optimal solution.
 
Sirius on iPhone and Mac

hmmm..

I've had no issue with streaming Sirius on any of my Macs. All one needs to do is go to the Sirius website.

I guess it looks perty.
