.sit files won't install with 10.2.8

Please help.

.sit files won't install on my G3 PowerBook. Have a 300 MHz processor, 320 mb RAM and system 10.2.8.

After the file is uncompressed and I click the "Install" button, enter the admin password and accept the license terms, the install app (Installer Vise) just sits there and sits there. Eventually the little beach ball guy starts a-spinnin' but that's it.

I've downloaded the latest version of StuffIt, etc. But I can't seem to get my compyter to install .sit files.

Please help. I need these apps, and the companies that sold them (Intuit for one) don't have a clue on how to help or what I'm even describing when I report the problem.

I'd like to help you if I can. I'd like to ask a few questions of you to narrow down what the problem could be. Which version of Stuffit Expander are you currently using? Do you have all the updates for OS X installed? How much space do you have left on your hard drive? How much Ram do you have? Are these installers ones that you can dowload online, or are they on a CD? What are the minimum system requirements for the programs you are trying to run?
Sometimes all it takes is someone fresh to look at the problem.

G3: 3OO MHz; 320 mb RAM; OS 10.2.8; Java 1.4.1

Have all the updates.

Running Stuffit 8.0 and have installed the .01 updater for Expander

Hard drive: About 3 gb on first; about 16 gb on 2nd; doesn't matter which one I use

Installers are downloaded online (Intuit) and from CD (ThinkFree Office). End result is the same.

System I have exceeds all minimum requirements.

Ran MacSweeper 1.5 to ensure all permissions were set correctly, etc. No effect.

Well...this one's got me. Are they avaliable online somewhere that I could download them? It seems odd that it would get half way through an installation and then just sit there without doing anything. I do some research on these apps and get back to you...
