First time with my 12.9 1TB LTE iPad Pro (Smart Keyboard and pencil) on a plane. I gotta say this thing is AMAZING. I know posting about this might be silly but the 12.9 is doing wonders to the fact that I have been sitting here for an hour waiting for this damn plane to be defrosted. Doesn’t feel massive, doesn’t take up a huge amount of space. The keyboard is awesome...I’m must super happy haha.

Anywho, thought some of you would appreciate :)

Thanks for posting this! I was wondering if anyone had flown with the new 12.9” yet and was considering starting a thread on it to ask.

This is good news as I have to travel for work on 12/3. Glad to hear that its functional in tight areas like the airplane.

I got my 12.9 last Wednesday and was on a plane the next morning. My experience was the same as Infiniteconstancy’s - it was great! I didn’t feel the iPad was too large. In fact, the gut sitting next to me had the previous version of the 12.9 and the size difference between the two was quite striking. So, no concerns about portability for me with the 12.9.

I didn’t have a problem using my previous generation 12.9 on a plane, though, for gaming or typing on ASK.

That said, for quick and easy reading, I would grab the Air 2. But when settling in on a long flight, I’d bring out the 12.9 (yes, I sometimes travel with two iPads :) ). On my upcoming trip, I won’t work much, so I’m just taking my new 11.

Good news ... I am waiting for the 1TB model to come back into stores as they are non-existent right now .. enjoy!

While I'm happy the 12.9 doesn't feel too big on a plane...I'd be happier yet if I never have to be on a plane. ;) (at least commercial. If somebody wants to come get me in their private plane, just say the word.)

Unless you hold your iPad in the air with one hand it is hard to imagine many scenarios where the 12.9 would feel too big over the 11.

It's threads like this that make me wonder--yet again--if I shouldn't take my 11 back and try the 12.9. I'm on Day 8.

Then I think, well, I've got a 13 MBP. Wouldn't it be redundant?

So what do you all think? Is a 13 MBP and a 12.9 redundant?

I can’t speak to the 13 MBP vs. 12.9 iPad Pro redundancy, but I can speak to the waffling between the 11 and 12.9 Pro - you’ll most likely yearn for what you don’t have - take the 11 back and get the 12.9, then read a few posts on here and you’ll start to think, “maybe I shouldn’t have changed to the 12.9”. Take the 12.9 back and grab another 11 and soon you’ll be thinking to yourself, “wow, I really miss that big screen....” and so on, and so on, and so on! :)

Is there a store nearby where you can go try out the 12.9 before you return your 11? I returned my 12.9 for an 11 and have not regretted my decision for one second.

Not for nothing, but this review shows the 11” beating the 12.9” in tests. The video is in Japanese however. Lol. But these dudes are pretty funny. My Japanese is kinda rusty. I used to live there for a bit.

But I wouldn’t second guess yourself too much. I am sure if you traded your 11” for the 12.9” you’d miss the portability and one handedness. But who knows. Both are kick ass devices. You can’t go wrong with either.

Ha! What did he say? He must have said something. I imagine he was eyeing your baby the whole flight.

And if the plane goes down in the Atlantic, you can use it as a flotation device!
Only if you thought to download the appropriate app, beforehand.

i used my 12.9 on 4 different flights this past week and the size feels much more manageable compared to the older model.

Both in terms of taking it in and out of a bag and also space on the usual small plane seat trays,

I was even able to have a cup of coffee and the iPad on the same tray!

Personally I feel 12.9 is just too big for me to use anywhere out of the house. I tried a few times at the Apple store and never managed to convince myself to get one.

Sticking to my 9.7 for now and it does all the basics I need it to do when I’m out and about.

I’ve taken my 12.9” on 5 flights in the last week, and it’s SO easy, even on the smallest coach seat with scant legroom and the tiniest tray table. (I also bought an 11” to compare, and it never came out of my bag.) I have a 15” MBP for work (just feels huge, everywhere), and a personal MBP 13”, and this iPad is still way easier to handle—especially in and out of a bag from under a plane seat—than the 13” MBP.

The 11” is very nice, but I haven't found a scenario yet (whether traveling, walking around, in work meetings taking notes, in bed, on the couch, etc) where the size of the 12.9” has been an issue or even crossed my mind.

Took the plunge mainly for use of flights. Love it for that reason alone.

You can really notice that big of a difference between the 12.9 iPP and your 13 MBP? That's wild.

Before getting a cover for my 10.5 IPP I would carry it inside a Composition notebook. Its the perfect size. I haven't seen the 12.9 in person yet but I'm guessing its the size of notebook paper. My IPP is a must when traveling because of what everyone else is saying...movies, reading, gaming. Its easy to read and with the massive storage you can put a bunch of movies on it with having to remove any games. I don't need to take my MBP unless I need to work long hours.

Taking a trip in 2 weeks and looking forward getting the most out of my 11” w/LTE... plane, hotel, ride share, etc.

This is me as well. I flew this week with the 11” and I felt like the entire world could see my screen. It just feels huge compared to my Air 2.

I can see myself picking up a 12.9 (or larger, should they make one) down the line for drawing and other stuff around the house, but I’ll definitely be keeping an 11” or smaller for traveling and work in cafes.

I got the 12.9 today and coming from Air 2 it sure does feel larger but I love it. So much more screen estate and it doesn't feel bulky or anything.
And if it feels too heavy for somebody I would suggest to get up and exercise a bit cause it ain't heavy at all.

Surprisingly, I can... but then, I also noticed a significant difference between by 13” MBP and my previous 12” Macbook (which I find very comparable to the new 12.9” IPP, in terms of portability and airplane-seat maneuverability.) A small amount of bulk/weight can be pretty noticeable—for me, anyway.

About to take a 5 hour trip from Vancouver to Montreal next Tuesday with. 12.9 iPad Pro. The iPad itself is light and portable, but with the stupid portfolio cover and usb cord, I hope its not gonna be a loading dock situation for me.
