Ok so heres the deal, I can get a 2.4 ghz MBP for 2149 at my school but they only have glossy left in stock. I asked them if I can get a matte at this price and they said no, I have to buy it at the normal student price of 2299 since they have to order it. So is it worth it to pay the extra 150 bones for the matte screen? I have been using matte forever but dont want to pass up this deal. I have seen some glossy screens on dells and whatnot and im not feeling it, but I do want to save the 150 bones.

Oh, they also have the 2.2 ghz MBP for 1649 and they have it in matte! I can always consider this an option if I really want a matte for cheap.

Decisions, decisions, what would you guys do in my situation?

Well, I can't stand glossy screens, so I would definitely fork over the $150 where my satisfaction and productivity is concerned.

It all comes down to how much you dislike the glossy screens.

I would buy Matte for the extra money, it is the principle of the thing!

Or I will buy up that last glossy unit, and sell it for $2200 to another student, subsidizing my custom ordered unit partially :D

I have a g4 iBook right now. They have more orders on the way but those are gonna be sold at the normal student price because apple said so.

I would have gone for this one. Unless you need the extra power of the other one.

If you hate glossy screens, you'll be happier in the long run with a matte. I know you'll be thinking in 2 years, "DARN, I wish I had gone with the matte."

The 150 really pales in comparison to what you are spending in total, go the last mile and get a package you are pleased with.

If you REALLY like saving money, you would go for the 2.2, which is what I'm going to do!

This shouldn't even need a response, don't buy a computer you won't like just to save $150. That would be pointless.

I'd defintly go with 2.2GHz MBP, matte or glossy I don't know, haven't seen them in person. I thought I would prefer the glossy but so many people here seem to vote for matte so who knows.

200MHz cpu, 40GB hdd and 128MB vram isn't worth so much more money, in that case just get the 17" 1920x1200 one aswell, because atleast you get a leet screen.

I agree. This is an expensive computer. Buy what you like. This really isn't a glossy vs. matte issue (matte IS the best by the way  ) but more of the principle. If you REALLY prefer one screen over the other, then get the one you want.

I hate glossy screens but I like saving 150 bones.

If you don't like Glossy, I say spend the 150. I don't think Glossy would both me personal, but if your not a fan, why buy a prodcut that isn't what you want? When spend 2K+, don't cut corners. Buy what you want, it will last long, and you'll enjoy using it more.

Seems like the low end MBP with the good screen and $150 off would be a great deal. Only reason to skip it is if you plan to game a lot or use really large external monitors-but even then, the price difference would be what, $650 just for double the video RAM?
