Six 4K Screens On A Mac Pro - 50,000,000 Pixels!

Wow, that's really interesting on a number of levels, both the eGPU slowly getting closer to being a viable solution, as well as six 4K screens at 60Hz run off the D700. What's up with that? He doesn't really say much about performance, and I wonder if the D700 is necessary for that to work?
(as a side note, I find it super annoying when reviewers include long clips of a movie/video game/etc. I haven't seen Fury Road yet, and I'm really looking forward to it, and it sucks to be force-fed an extensive clip of it in order to watch the hardware demo)

that 3 4k limitation is not for the mac pro itself but for the gpus inside the mac pro. He is running 3 on the egpu and 3 on the d700's

He certainly gives the impression that all 6 are running of the internal D700s. Watch the vid all the way to the end.
I wonder if this "extreme" capability is limited to the D700, or if the D300s could support?
All 6 are running from internal D700.
I also did 3 + 3. 3 on egpu and 3 internal
Even with all 6 on internal D700's it works fine.

I have heard there is some trouble getting the Mac Pro trash can working with eGPUs under Windows. Have you been able to try your setup to see if it will work?

Not at the end he's not. Watch the video again. He is running all 6 of them from the Mac Pro only (5 at 60fps, 1 at 30fps).

Only problem I have with this is that he didn’t get a screen close up and he didn’t run all at 60Hz.

You, Scrappy CoCo, and Bladerunner need to grow up and learn some manners. The anonymity of the internet sure shows how incredibly rude people can be. If you have an opinion voice it with some respect.
And let's get a few things clear:
- First, it's his money, his hobby, and his YouTube channel; he can do whatever the hell he wants.
- Second, a lot of people bought these machines when they first came out. They spent a lot of money then, and while yes, there are cheaper and more powerful modern solutions now, why would those same people be willing to give up on a perfectly good machine that's only a few years old? Also, some people enjoy tinkering with their current gadgets to keep them up-to-date and they have every right to do so. I think it's pretty cool this guy has the willingness to try things like changing the CPUs, experimenting with eGPUs, and figuring out how to run a bunch of 4K monitors.
Being both a cMP and nMP owner, I'm curious to see what people can do to keep these machines current for as long as they can. Why? Because I bought both machines and they were large investments; I want them to stay usable for as long as possible. I support both MacVidCards in his endeavours to get current GPUs working in old Mac hardware, and I support MrThaiBox figuring out how to run an awesome setup of monitors that doesn't supposedly work according to Apple's guidelines.
It's always the little people who yell the loudest and have the nastiest things to say, especially on the internet.

It's a nothing more than a messy workaround. Yeah, it works, but its still awful, inefficient and way overpriced.
He connected six 4k monitors to the display ports. He thought he would have to use an eGPU; he didn't. It wasn't that messy.
Did you even watch the video? He put in a 7970 in an enclosure while committing the mac fanboy cardinal sin of using PC parts (the corsair PSU) to power the 7970. Thus, it being an EXTERNAL GPU.
The video only drives home how pathetic the trash can mac pro is for expansion as it requires these ridiculous workarounds where as you could just slap in another GPU into a PCIe slot without it being gimped to the thunderbolts throughput which is significantly less than PCIe. The end result is just pig slosh of cables, devices, etc. where as the classic Mac Pro did things the right way.
Did YOU even watch the video? Starting around 4:00 he hooks all six 4K monitors up directly to the nMP and states that all six work at 4K 60Hz with no problems.
So what? It's still an external GPU. Pointless when an old Mac Pro could do this with just two video cards.
You're entitled to your opinion, but you're not entitled to be a jerk about it. Nearly every post by you is rude, disparaging, and derogatory.
