I would like to make my open app indicator lights larger and a different color, but lack the expertise to do so.

Is the code that specifies the size & color of the open app indicator lights easily editable? And where might that code reside?

Or, for that matter, is there a third party app/hack that will do this for me?

CandyBar 3.3.4 I think will allow you to customize the indicator lights.

Free but unsupported.
Check the link for the full details.

I don't think it works too well. Wish Apple would allow us to change it in System Prefs.

The dock can't be customized in ML. Just the light color can be changed, not the size.

I had considered Candy Bar, but was apprehensive when I learned it is no longer supported, and, that the modifications to the indicator were not what I was seeking.

And now it seems that just the color can be modded, well, back to the drawing boards.

Still, I appreciate the effort of you both in responding to my query.

Again, I know it's not what you're asking, but you can always make the dock 2D instead of 3D if you want to have clearer indicators.

In terminal use:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES

(then hit enter, followed by)

killall Dock

You can put it back to the standard 3D dock in terminal with:

defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean NO
