How big is the screens on the 20" and 23" ACD. How wide by how deep.

I'm trying to decide is the 23" is worth the substantial cost increase.

Best just to go down to your nearest Apple store and check at the difference yourself. If money is an issue look into the Dells, great quality near to none as the Apple and cheaper. Thats of course you don't mind the look.

These details are available at apple.com/displays click the specs section.

Pfft not really, before the price change you paid about $800 more for the extra 3" of screen real estate and I'm sure its that same amount still. There were minor differences in how much power they both used and obviously aesthetically the 23" is a tad bit bigger.

So its up to you if the price difference is really worth the 3 extra inches or not.

1,764,000 pixels vs the 23" 2,304,000 pixels that is 30% more screen space.

Finally I have arrived.....
I have both 20" and 23" ACD and I can tell you a 23" ACD is noticeably bigger than a 20" model (as I position them side by side on my computer desk). When I do something with Photoshop or other graphics programs, a 23" ACD's extra screen space comes in handy. But, for normal day to day use, a 20" is large enough, I think.

Thanks for all the info, but I couldn't find the width/height of the screen (not including bezel) on Apple. I only found the dimensions of the whole unit.

The 20": 16.1" high, 18.5" wide
The 23": 17.7 " high. 21.1" wide

I think those measurements include the stand, I'm looking for screen size width/height in inches not pixels.

Thanks

PS I'm jealous of YS 2003 w/2 ACDs!

Since I have both here right in front of me, I did the following quick measurments of ACDs.

23" screen only: about 14" high, 21" wide, and about a little less than 2" depth. If you include the stand, the total height is about somewhere between 17" and 18".

20" screen only: about 12.5" high, 18.5" wide, and about 1.5" depth. If you include the stand, the total height is 16".

Both are very slick looking and sealed very well (no dust getting in). Even though ACDs are pricer than other run-of-the-mill LCD screen, I like Apple ACD's total packaging.

Better be careful.. if women find out you tricked them.. they tend to get a tad angry. Other than that, good idea

Don't get the 23"ACD I highly recommend (As will many others on this forum) the Dell 2405FWP 24" LCD.

Here:

35% off 2405FWP- (WFQ9X9GW1VT?2R) expires 10/18/05 limit 5000 users
$60 off $500- (B5SM90M526JSBK) expires 10/20/05 limit 10,000 users

Call up dell and ask if you can use these coupons on the Dell 2405FWP and they should say yes. You could have this amazing LCD for around $720 shipped.

Get the Dell 2405FPw over the 23". Not only do you get more features and a better warranty, but you also save about $700.

I know the actual screen in the dell is the same as the ACD for cheaper and that it has card readers etc, but I'm a sucker for Apple's style. Apple could paint a logo on a rock and I'd probably buy it.

Did you read some of the reviews on the ACD 23" some of them have a problem where the screen has a pink hue. When i was at my local Apple store and Compusa both of their 23" had this pink hue. At Compusa they had the 20" and 23" right next to eachother and you could clearly see the hue, the whites in on the 20" were white and the whites on the 23" were a light pink. I know that the ACD look a lot better than the Dell, but think about this, what are you looking at when you are doing stuff on your mac, the screen or the case? I really think you will be A LOT happier with the 24" Dell. But that is just me. I had to make the decision to go with the Dell 24" or the ACD 20" at first i really wanted the ACD because it looked so much better than the Dell but right now after i think about it I am EXTERMELY glad that I got the Dell.

ACD aspect ratio: 16:10

tan(diagonal angle) = 10/16 = 0.625

diagonal angle = arctan(0.625) = 32 degrees

width = diagonal * cos(diagonal angle) = 23" * 0.8479 = 19.5"

height = diagonal * sin(diagonal angle) = 23" * 0.53 = 12.19"

For 20" ACD: width = 16.96", height = 10.6"

For 24" Dell: width = 20.35", height= 12.72"

Yeah, but for almost the same price, you can have two 20" screens.

I agree here. Dell has just as good of a monitor as Apple, but significatly cheaper. And you are looking and getting things done on the OS, not on the screen.

So a picture of an Apple is worth $700 more?

Thanks for the debate.

If I could have 2 20" plugged into by PowerBook I would.

I'm aware of reports of the pink hue but I've seen several ACDs with no issues.

I've been waiting for a couple of years and have gone back and forth several times. It just comes down to I'm treating myself.

I appreciate the feedback. Hearing from first hand users is awesome!
