MR reports that a major complaint of iOS 8 was that it took 4.5GB of space to install while iOS 9 takes about 1.5GB to install. That's to install.

What are the actual footprint sizes of the OSes themselves? It would be a great benefit for me and my 16GB and 32GB devices to upgrade from iOS 8 to 9 if I were to gain back 1-2GB of free storage space for my music and pictures. But if the OS footprints are the same (or 9 is larger than 8), then it's not worth the upgrade.

Thanks!

But the ipsw file is just a download...it has to unpack, install, clean up temp files, then delete itself...so again I ask the forums...what are the actual iOS install sizes of iOS 8 and iOS 9? I'm installing on iPad Air 1 and maybe a Touch 2015.

How can we know that ? If you are talking about available space after fresh install I believe it's the same, 10.7GB free for 16GB devices in both iOS 8 and 9.

"How can we know that ?"...I'm sure there are certain diehard iOS techies on this forum...that's who my question/topic is addressed to. Or, if someone has recently wondered the same question I am and spent some time doing some fresh installs and upgrades, he/she would also know the answer.
