Looking for a decent/good sketch app for the iPad, prefer it to be free or at least have a free reduced function version, as not buying unless I try it first

Will keep it in mind, not showing a free version though to try out

It's temp .99 ATM, but yes because I have used free apps that are a lot better then the priced ones, and a lot of priced apps that are crap

And besides, in original post I asked for AT LEAST reduced function trial

It's a 2 dollar app. Does it really need a lite version???

We have had a few of these threads now. Check out the sketchbook pro thread with a lot of images and information on the different art packages. You will find macrumor members artwork samples too which demonstrate what you can do.

Basically though if your priority is cheap get Art Studio. microbyte has proven with his amazing stuff that it can achieve great results in talented hands.

The other apps, sketchbook pro, layers pro, brushes are all excellent too and they have better and more refined menus and user interface.
However they are $5.99-7.99

It seems cost is a big deal with you, which after spending a minimum of $499 on your iPad to quibble still that the .99 cent to download art studio was a bit high, is somewhat contrary to say the least.

There are no good free art apps. The cheapest is ArtStudio at $0.99, though myself and others prefer Brushes and Sketchbook Pro. That's about all I'll say, since I'm not really interested in helping people who, a) don't search or at least scroll down the front page to see there are already numerous threads about this very topic, many of them active in last day, and b) are too cheap to spend $0.99 cents on a fully featured art app that is comparable to desktop packages which cost many times more. Seriously, you can't even get a bottle of soda that much. It's less than a pint of beer. Even the 'better' apps like Brushes are under $10, about what I (and people of working age able to afford an iPad) spend on lunch every day.

User: i have a 64GB 3G, and cost isnt an issue. i just dont want to get an app then not use it again cause i dont like the program, which is why i need at least a limited functionality free version to check out.

Nausicaa: actually there isnt any about this verry topic, there Are threads about posting what people have did in said apps, as well as what PAID apps, but i dont remember asking for paid apps, or what people are creating in sketchpad.

i checked out Adobe Ideas, and didnt care for it, hey there you go on why i asked for a free trial.

User: if you're quibbling over 99 cents perhaps you need to rethink your iPad and the necessity of a drawing app. For 99 cents art stuido is amazing. Tell me you've never wasted 99 cents before. Perhaps when asking for help you can remove the chip from your shoulder.

Now, Sketchbook had a free version but it was made for the iPhone/iPod touch.

Theres 3 options, download them all all 3 are like 15 bucks or less. you might end up needing all 3 to finish a drawing. If your cheap then get Adobe Ideas 1.0 or Draw on iPad. No matter what you use if you dont have talent it wont look good.

It's not that we are not listening, it's that your being utterly irrational. You have your answer. There are no 'free' apps that are any better than adobe ideas. Art Studio is the very cheapest package that is any good. You're just being incredibly irrational ordering a $829 main course, but too tight to pay $.99 for the desert.

Those other threads If you actually bothered reading them instead of dismissing them cover the good and bad of those varying apps. They show work carried out in them.

If anything that is your free trial. You are seeing peoples reviews of the varying apps and their work, it shows what is possible and what is not with the packages.

If you like someones painting, ask them what they used to create it, and then maybe break open the piggy bank and lay down that buck or two.

You're not going to get something great for free, and you need to drop the attitude you are seemingly showing here and you might get more responses that 'meet your approval'

Like I have said previously, the price of the app is not an issue.
Buying an app and not liking where I won't be using it is.
And because you apparently like to just throw money away for nothing, how bout you throw some on the street, not tax deductible charity, but randomly down the block, who cares, you won't get the satisfaction of a charity of homeless person, but actually getting something useful is irrelevant

Reading them and seeing what people are doing with them do nothing as the feel of the app itself or what it allows the person to do. I tried the adobe ideas like I have also said before, and did not like the feel for the app, now reading what peoples opinions of the app and seeing what they can do with it would have told me nothing in that regards other then their opinion's on why they like it, resulting in them posting their creations in the thread to begin with

did the adobe ideas thread (don't remember seeing one other then announcement ) discuss about the limited options as far as line width which is annoying to change? Options?

I have read the other as far as sketchbook or whatnot the first day it was created, as well as various other threads, I have been watching this whole forum since before the iPad was even announced, and site since the 1gen iPod touch

As far as attitude, there wasn't an attitude for the first post, which the second poster didn't bother read as the "AT LEAST FREE TRIAL", you do know what the term " at least" means right?

And from here I'm not even going to bother, I'll go through each app in the AppStore, as literally there was only 1 response in there that was even remotely worth anything.

If somebody askes you for a electric grocery getter recommendation, do you start talking about Porsche's and SUV's? Yes they are all vehicles, but not what he was asking to begin with

Principles are great, they are. But there can be limits. For instance, time has value. How much is your time worth? How much did you spend in this thread?

Buying something just to try out isn't for nothing. The experience of finding out it isn't for you has real value.
