so bit fountain is having a sale on this sketch course. I was wondering: do I really need it? Or is it just better to ask a designer to design symbols and so on. Or does this sketch do more than just draw icons?

I just bought Sketch (student license) and really found it worthwhile, even if I were to only use it for that one application. I initially purchased 'design + code' on bitfountain, which I found helpful, but YMMV.

It does a fair bit more than just designing icons.

I just wondered if it's not cheaper letting a designer design the few icons an app needs

Probably not, especially not if they are custom made. However, if it's only icons you need, I would check out FlatIcon. Most of their stuff is free for use. There are a lot of free icons out there, it just may well be that none of them fit your usage.

I have personally only used it to set up a custom cell and to create and app icon. Both of which we easy to learn how to do, coming from absolutely no interface design experience.

hmmm does not seem it justifies 79 dollars for the course and 99 for the app

I have the course. It's not as smooth as Elliots but it's getting there. I've definitely learned a lot so far.

Sketch can be used to create logos and icons which are very easy and I'm not a designer at all. More than that you can wireframe iOS apps which is pretty cool.

I've had the sketch app from mengs book but I've never got hooked until the course

For instance one my projects was to mimic Skype logo. This is my Johnny Ive version. Lol. Again not a designer. http://imgur.com/zy0na6h
