SketchUp specs

So I wanna get the full version of SketchUp, I'm doing work on some plans sent to us by an architect and the client is really comfortable using SketchUp. I have the trial version but it keeps crashing my G5, so work have kindly offered to upgrade my machine.

Is anyone using it, and if so what kind of specs are you using? Currently I'm rocking the mic on a 2.3ghz G5 PPC, running a (256 MB) NVIDIA GeForce 6600 card. Can you kind folk let me know if thats rubbish or what? SketchUp's website suggests that I am above the min specs.

Should I upgrade to an intel machine or do you think just upgrading the graphics card could solve some of my problems?

It ran fine on my windows xp, 1.8Ghz single core, an geforce 6200A (256mb) an 2gb of ram.

So yours should fly compared to my old one!

My first question would be ram, how much have you got but to be honest sketchup isn't a 'heavy' 3d app.

I think I would be more curious as to why sketchup is crashing than getting a new system etc.

I have 2 1/2gig of ram sitting on the machine. Dunno why its crashing though, as I said, I'm pretty much way over the min specs on the SketchUp site.

Your machine should be fine i run sketchup on a dual 2.0 G5 with Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL and 5.5 GB of ram. I had some problems before as well i managed to track it down to the autosave feature which i disabled. (just remember to save intermittently(get an egg timer)). Also there are some options for hardware acceleration and open gl which you might want to take a look at. Otherwise the sketchup forums are a wealth of information. Just for the record i absolutely love sketchup ! It's a solid piece of software and these crashes are not typical imho.
