for .00003 seconds I thought It was ATT telling me to connect to iTunes and update my carrier file and I got really excited..

Are you at a Starbucks or at another AT&T wifi hotspot?
On Sunday, I was at a Starbucks, and instead of my iPhone just signing in automatically (as it has done over the past few months), the Starbucks wifi log in webpage appeared, and I couldn't connect.
Maybe something is up there?

nope, I'm at work at my desk where I always am during the day.. although starbucks are popping up everywhere, so its possible that they built one out front today while I wasn't paying attention
also, I have WiFi shut off.
That message appears if you are using an AT&T Hotspot. That's free Wi-Fi at Starbucks + McDonalds. Many other areas too.
I figured it out.
The friend of mine that I sold my 3g to when I got the 3gs is using it jailbroken on t-mobile and he was seeing if typing in my number would allow him to use wifi at starbucks..
