skip "slide to unlock" screen

On my old iphone, the bottom of the screen where the slider is no longer responds to touch. I was wondering if there was some sort of mod or hack to make the iphone skip the "slide to unlock" page and go straight to the home page. Thanks!

Also, if an iPhone has a password, it'll go straight to the password prompt instead of the slide to unlock screen. If I could get a method of adding a password on the iphone, that would also be wonderful. (keep in mind i can't get to the home screen)

it is a first generation iphone, running jailbroken 3.1.2
