iPod Skullcandy Mic'd with shuffle and latest iphone

quick question, the skullcandy headphones with remote mic such as these , can they be used with the new iPod shuffle because of the proprietary 'chip' that is required and is being introduced to apple products.

if not are there any 'not very expensive' headphone that , perhaps arround the $30 mark, will work with both products

I believe you need an adapter to make the shuffle fully functional (as the controls are all on the headphones).
