Got my 64gb iPad in the UK today, set it up and thought I'd check out the Sky Mobile TV app which I normally use on my iPhone.

The app launched ok on the iPad but then told me it could only be registered to one device and gave me a phone number to contact Sky on to update the device details.

I phoned the number and explained to the guy that I wanted to use it on my iPad rather than the iPhone. He then had a conversation with his manager resulting in me being told it wasn't compatible. I explained I was an iPhone developer and saw no reason why this would be, I was then told that the sky iPhone developers said there was a problem with streaming to the device and they won't be able to support iPads at the moment. His manager was in the background advising him during this conversation.

I then said fair enough as I was getting nowhere. Once off the phone I checked out the iTunes page for the app where it's listed as being supported on the iPad. I decided to call back and ended up speaking to the same guy at Sky, I explained about the iTunes listing and was again told that it doesn't work on an iPad. Interestingly, I was then told that in fact the reason was because Sky are looking into developing "something for the iPad which will cost more".

I left it at that and decided to register a new user name/account with Sky which I then used to login with on the iPad. Unsurprisingly, its been working fine all evening, the bigger picture on the iPad is great compared to the iPhone. I've now cancelled my iPhone subscription and will continue to watch on the iPad.

Just wondering if they've tried to fob off anyone else with this nonsense about the iPad being incompatible.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

The bit about wanting to charge more for an iPad version sounds more like the real reason you got fobbed off.

Thanks for the heads up.. I might subscribe to sky mobile. Wasn't a big fan of it on the iPhone but might be worthwhile for my iPad

I've been meaning go call them about this since I got my iPad. I had planned to just tell them I bought a new iPhone and needed to deregister my old one. Figured that would be easy enough.

I'm using it on my iPad. It's great. Scales up pretty sweet in 2x mode.

I had to phone sky twice though, made same mistake as you 1st time, and mentioned iPad.

I'm now using it very nicely on my 'iPod touch'. Wink wink.

The phone call simple enough? I was hopingicould just add the iPad to my current sub on the website, but can't figure out how!

Yeah, just phone them and tell them you want to unregister your device and register with another.

It can only be on one device at a time, hence why you can't add another on your sub..

I have a feeling many developers are looking to the iPad to either charge a higher one-time fee and/or add subscriptions. I'm concerned the iPad may become a huge money pit.

I'd pay an extra couple of quid a month for higher res streams.

Have to admit that I've spent more today on the iPad than I have in three years on the iPhone.

That said, I've got some cracking apps. I think one of the best apps so far is by Adobe - Ideas, even better, it's free.
