skype 2.8 mac os x opening page

my opening page in skype has changed and cant find out why.Indeed the normal opening page has 2 sections-the one on the left has all of my contacts
whereas the right side has the pictures of my contacts if any and just below a section with the msges from these contacts and below that a section to send a msge.so my problem is that the right section has disappeared and would like to get it back but dont know what to do

Skype for Mac OS X is now at version 5.3.0.1093...your version is out of date.

You can try deleting it and then re-downloading it again. Get a version of your choice here.

I'm still on 2.8 myself because I think all the newer versions suck.
