Skype and backgrounder on ipad

I used to by able to put skype in the background during a call and use the iPad for other stuff, now the call is held when skype is in background I can't speak or hear, when skype is brought back to "foreground", the call is un-held and continues.
Anyone seen this or know of a fix?
