Is there any indication that Skype will be allowed to make use of the iPhone 4's front-facing camera in the near future? Or is it safe to assume that Apple wants to keep FaceTime exclusive? Sorry if this has been discussed before.

It was my understanding that Apple has opened up this API to developers. So, I am hopeful that skype will take advantage of this and update their app sometime in the near future.

There's several "mirror" apps already that use the front camera, so apparently developers have access to it. I think being able to Skype video chat would be about 100 times more useful than the iPhone to iPhone facetime. Don't hold your breath waiting for this, though. Skype is very slow to update. They still haven't added notifications.

I certainly hope they do. FaceTime is effectively useless for me because I'm the only one I know with an iPhone 4. I just hope this doesn't become a repeat of the Google Voice snafu.

I hope this as well, even if it's just over WiFi. FaceTime is kinda useless right now.

Yeah, I'd love video chat on the Skype app. The AIM app, too.
