So the most awaited Skype app is released into the AppStore and everyone is checking it out. I just got it too, however it keeps crashing on my iPhone (Firmware 2.2)...

What are your first impression ?? Share them here....

UPDATE: The crashing was only on Jailbroken phones and is fixed through the "Mobile Substrate" update in Cydia.

No crashing for me at all, and the calls I've made so far have been crystal clear. At the moment, I'm really happy with this app.

if you look at the app store reviews so far, a good number of people are having crash issues (50% or more). It's crashing on both my wife's 1st gen 2G and my 3G iphone. We are both on 2.2 but people on 2.2.1 are also experiencing crashes. Not happy here.

No problems for me…
1st Gen iPhone (O2), OS2.2.1
Tested on home WiFi and while having coffee this morning at Caffé Nero (BT WiFi).
Quality a lot better than Fring.

Very happy. :)

no problems for me either so far......however

is it just me or does searching by a name in the skype directory suck? I searched for myself and i get a gazillion listings that don't match my search string but not me. if i search for my skype name it comes up..........seems like their search can use some work.

Used it this morning to make a Skype call from UK to Australia. Call quality was fantastic. Far superior to the call quality in Fring. Experienced no crashes whatsoever. The instant messaging is good aswell. Love it.

Works fine on my iPhone 3G 2.2.1.

Have reported a minor bug. The text box by the side of your profile pic has a popup keyboard. It has a Done button rather than a Return one, which means if you press Done you get a blank line and the keyboard isn't dismissed.

Crash problem may because of jailbroken

There seems to be a problem with skype and jailbroken phones and there is a update that will stop the crash.

International Call Question with Skype

I will be in Israel for a couple of weeks late in May. I've not used Skype before. From checking the Skype site, it appears that if I have a wifi connection, I'd be able to use my Iphone 3g to call home (USA, non skype landlines and cell phones) for a little over $.02 a minute to landlines and about $.13(found it at one point, couldn't later, so not sure of that price) a minute to cell phones. Am I understanding that right?
thanks,
Gerry

So the way the skype on iphone works, if someone is trying to call you via skype, the app has to be running in order for you to receive the phone call? Or does it have some form of push notification you are being called?

Great on 3.0.

Installed from iTunes.

VoIP with EDGE and 3G on O2-UK.

Nice so skype does work via 3G...nice. Now I just have to wait until the new iphones come out...

Hmmm, couldn't get a call to work on O2-UK 3G this afternoon. Fine on Wifi, but a message saying Skype calls over 3G was not supported.

Full 3G signal, other data services working fine. iPhone 3G 8Gb, OS 2.2.1

Is it just my phone or is anybody else having a problem with the in call menu being grayed out? I can't bring up a dialpad, put a call on hold, or put the call on speakerphone. Is anybody else having these issues?

My local TV news made it sound like this app for the iPhone had video phone abilities, but I don't see how that can be since the camera is on the back of the iPhone and you wouldn't be able to then see the other party if you want them to see you as well. I'm confused.

jesus, you can't get called. you can only make calls, I thought that would be pretty obvious considering you can't have background apps
