Hi I have an unltd USA skype calling account and use it on my iPhone. I was investigating getting an unltd voice plan from AT&T.

Is it wise to use skype as a stand alone voice solution compared to unltd AT&T voice in regards to reliability to make and receive calls, I recently purchased a skype phone number. I make alot of voice calls and receive alot of calls too.

Anyone use skype as their primary for making and receiving calls with their iPhone with good success?

Skype requires much more bandwidth than default calling with ATT. You would need 3g 24/7 to get comprehendible voice quality. On edge, you couldnt use it.

This is my experience.

How long have you been with AT&T?

I live in an area where AT&T is pretty popular, so that helps, but I use my cellphone exclusively. I have no landline at home, and I don't use my office phone hardly at all. I'm a Pastor, I spend a LOT of time on my phone, but I still use very few minutes. I have AT&T's smallest calling plan, and have over 2,000 rollover minutes. Reason being is I try to call people on their cellphones, and they call me on theirs. They all have AT&T, which is unlimited.

The point I'm trying to make is, if your new to AT&T, see how much you ACTUALLY use it before forking over for an unlimited plan. I wouldn't use skype as a standalone, however, it'll end up costing you in bandwith (unless your grandfathered in to unlimited).
