I've never used Skype, only heard the name. I looked at the website and have what must be a stupid question...but I'm going to ask anyway. If I have a Skype account and someone calls me from their computer but the Skype application is not open on my machine does my computer still start ringing?

No it does not start ringing, next time you log in you will have a notification message. They will either of sent you a instant message (a window will appear with the message) or they will of left you a voicemail message, simply double click on the message and it will begin to play.

I have Skype setup to run automatically when I login. I find the latest version stable and not very resource intensive on Mac so don't have any issues with leaving it running all the time. Just be careful about adding people you don't know to your contacts - your Spam will get out of control...
