Hi guys,

My work emailed me a Skype Call invite to my home email address. However, I do not have Skype for Business installed on my home computer. But I do have it on my work computer. If I forwarded the original email with the Skype link to my work email address, will I be able to join the call if I opened it from my work email address?

Unfortunately, my work doesn't allow access to gmail, hotmail etc so my only option was to forward the email to my work address and then try and access Skype business that way.

Although I haven't tested it myself. The link should work. It's just a hyperlink isn't it? It should bring you to a page to download and install the Skype meetings app and join the meeting. As it's a hyperlink it won't know what email address it came from. The link you have is for this specific meeting. If they host another meeting in the future. Your current hyperlink will no longer be valid.

Thank you velocity. That's a relief. It is a hyperlink, and I also have Skype for Business already installed. So hopefully a simple click of the link should do the job.

I couldn't say for certain but it looks like Skype Meetings may be a separate app. But it should prompt you to install it from the Windows store. You can also open the store app on your PC right now and just get it installed ahead of time.

Alas, I can't install Skype for business on my Mac due to my work's strict rules. But I've requested a separate invitation to be sent to my work email address, so as long as it arrives on time, I should be good to go (fingers crossed) :)

We also use Skype for Business to invite attendees from other companies who do not have an email provided by our company, and they just click the link to join...either by the web or the app.

You can run Skype in the app or in a web browser - as I've done on both my own Mac and iPad when I've been travelling without my work laptop.

The only issue you may run into is if they've set access restrictions to company email addresses only.

BTW, if the Mac is your own home machine, then your work can't stop you installing anything you want.

Thanks tyco0746. I work for an organisation with probably the most stringent and secure IT systems (but crappest in house applications known to man) so not a chance of logging on from anything other than their own computers. Doing so would result in ☠ by flogging!
