Hi there,

I'm on an iPhone 3G - jailbroken and have voipover3g installed as well. all packages are up to date (mobilesubstrate etc...)

Is anybody else experiencing a situation where skype doesn't recognize the wifi network? It sometimes just gives me a message saying that skype can't be used on 3G networks, even though the iPhone is connected to wifi. Re-springing doesn't do the trick, I actually have to reboot the iPhone in order to get skype to work again.

It usually occurs once the phone has been on for a while, works right after the reboot but then after a couple of hours it needs another reboot to make it work again.

Any clues? I've tried to find other people with similar experiences but doesn't seem like anybody's mentioned it anywhere yet.

Regards,

Fabian

Happened to me once as well. I was on wifi and Skype was giving me a message that I needed to be on wifi in order to make a call. Rebooted and was able to call out over wifi, 3G and Edge. Not sure what to think of it but it was probably just a hiccup or something.

Thanks for your reply, glad to hear I'm not the only one! It seems to happen to me quite a lot, still trying to get to the root of the problem - possibly another app?

Hmm - it's only happened to me once so far (fingers crossed;)). What other apps do you have installed on the jailbreak side? Maybe we can see what we have in common to try and find the culprit.

Out of your list this is what we have in common:

aptbackup
backgrounder
cycorder
mobileFinder
PdaNet
StatusNotifier
voipover3g

Logically, the only ones that could affect skype are backgrounder (if you have skype enabled) or voipover3g; however, unless it happens to me again I'm going to write it off as a one-time thing.

I've been trying to reproduce the problem all day today but can't do it, so I really hope it only was a one-time thing. :)

Well this just happened to me again this moring; however, I'm beginning to think that it's just a problem with the Skype app itself rather than anything to do with the jailbreak. The fact that the app is not recognizing the wifi connection leads me to believe that there is something wrong with the Skype app. I'm going to do some searching to see if anyone else is reporting this issue.

yeah weird. no matter what i did before, or after installing VoIPover3G - i couldn't even log in.

it would say "check network settings' or something like that. even after multiple reboots, re installing, and removing VoIPover3G and reinstalling skype again... nothing would work....

i just kept using Fring - i guess i'll wait for an update

That sounds like a different issue altogether. My Skype works about 95% of the time - it's just that once in a while it doesn't even recognize that I'm legitimately on a wifi connection.
