So, not one to miss the boat, last tuesday I immediately logged on to get a copy of the Skype for iphone application. I was not very surprised to find it not available in canada, (Skype has a lot of problems securing contracts in Canada, as we're one of the only countries still missing a skype in line)
So, I created an american itunes account and downloaded the app, easy as pie?
Well, the program immediately crashed on me, which was frustrating, until I learned the problem was only effecting jailbroken iphones. The solution was quick and easy, (use cydia to install an updated copy of "mobile substrate")
Now with my jailbroken iphone up and running, skype is running flawlessly....
...in my bedroom
whats the point of mobile skype over wifi! I have my macbook for that.
scouring the internet for solutions I came across iPhoneinCanada who has a step by step guide to get you running over 3g. the link is here

Now I'm up and running skype on wifi and 3g alike. Call quality is great, I can hear people fine, although I've had a few complaints of my end being a bit quiet.
Not sure about how Rogers will like this one, I'm going to go on the safe side and give them a call, as stated in one of my other posts, I was recently assured by Rogers that "tethering" my iPhone to my computer to use a a wireless router is completely LEGAL. If i can use my iPhone to connect to my computer and make a skype call, I don't see them hunting me down for doing this.
cheers!
