Skyrim: MBP vs. PS3

I'm wanting to play the new Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim when it comes out and was curious as to which system it will play better on.

I have the Early 15" 2.3 quad core MBP High Res Anti-Glare 6750 with 1gb dedicated memory.

Should I get it for PS3 or my MBP?
 
The system requirements aren't out for Skyrim yet, so right now no one can say for sure which will be better. A rough guess would be that it will run similar to Dirt 3 or Crysis 2 in these benchmarks for your gpu.

So that would be medium to high-ish computer graphics compared to the PS3 graphics. Probably not a whole lot of difference in how the game looks, so I would just pick the control type you prefer.

If you really want to know for sure you'll have to wait a few months.
 
You should get Skyrim for the PC because of the mods. Mods add almost infinite replay value to the game.

If this is not important to you, however, or you don't really like PC controls, the PS3 option isn't too bad.

That's negligible since you can use a keyboard+mouse or a controller on the PC. I'll be using a controller on PC because yup - mod support :).
 
I don't really have a preference on controls. I guess I'll get it on PC.

Should I get it on steam? I heard a lot of people complain because the last version of Elder Scrolls on steam didn't have mod support. You think this version will be the same?

The PC version features Steamworks so it's likely this will be the only way to get it.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Like Dagless said, if you want, you can actually use your PS3 controller with Skyrim using a special program out there. You can either map out the controller buttons to match the keyboard controls, or even better, if PC Skyrim has X360 controller support, you can have the program emulate a X360 controller. So basically when you plug in your PS3 controller, Skyrim thinks you plugged in a xbox controller and thus provides full support for it. This is better because mapping WASD to the thumb sticks doesn't work well. This method works for me on Deadspace 2.

About Oblivion not having mods because of Steam, that's bull. I have Steam Oblivion modded like hell. Heck, steam worked with the creators of OBSE to get their "mod" to work with the Steam executable. That kinda shows you Steam does care about the modding community. So I'm pretty sure Steam Skyrim will support mods.

I don't think he or anyone else with the same view is crazy. It's all a matter of personal preference. There is no hard and fast rule on what input method you should use. Granted with FPS games a mouse and keyboard is better from a precision point of view but it's not really necessary in other genres as long as the game developers have properly catered for control pad use. Certainly in a game like Skyrim which is a single player game a control pad should work just as well.

Can you link to where I can get the Mods?

I've never done a mod for Oblivion because I had it previously for PS3. I Have the steam version now and I haven't played it yet b/c I wanted to Mod it. I heard there is a Mod to make it look better but I have no Idea where to get it or how to use it. Help would be appreciated :)

To make mods for Oblivion, the Construction Set is the tool you need.

Here's a mod that makes Oblivion look better: Qarl's Texture Pack III (Requires OBMM).

Also, a couple mods that I think are pretty much essential to a good Oblivion experience:

OBMM (Oblivion Mod Manager): This should probably be first on your download list. Use this to organize your mod order, because some mods only work if loaded in a certain order, i.e. last in your load order.

Also, if you download an OMOD, this is the program that installs them. OMODs are very nice and easy to use. Actually, the texture pack I just mentioned requires OBMM since it is an OMOD, but you can find other ways of installing his mod.

Deadly Reflex: Drastically improves combat. Many of the new Skyrim moves were influenced from this mod. Requires OBSE (Oblivion Script Extender).

Yes you can discuss Cider.

The only time it would be restricted is if someone came onto a thread and said, hey just torrented xxxx game on PC is there any way I can get it run on my Mac.

At this point discussing cider would be aiding in the procurement of illegal software and discussion would be not allowed.

Context is the key factor.

In regards to getting a PS3 pad to act like a X360 pad in Windows, can someone share a link.
 
There is nothing like comftorably sitting on a couch, controller in hand and a big ass TV in front of you. +speakers all around.

Get it for the PS3.

Mac Book Pro. The radeon GPU on the MBP is far superior to the RSX gpu on the PS3.

Cell makes a good data center and server CPU though it's too complex for devs to code efficiently for games unless they take extra time and effort. Which in most cases they don't leading to Xbox 360 versions of 3rd party games normaly looking better.

I would get the 360 version just because i only have a mac mini and the fact my i7 gaming PC with the geforce GTX 260 and 6GB of ram is now not good enough anymore. Yet the 360 that has the same hardware specs from it's release in 2006 can keep up with today's PCs in graphics.
 
In regards to PS3 version. Only thing of concern on the internet forums - is the fact Bethesda have yet to show it running on PS3 hardware. The last big press preview it was all Xbox 360 for hands-on.
