I've got a MBP from late 2007. It runs Oblivion smoothly. Here's my specs:
2.4GHz
4GB RAM
GeForce 8600M GT
VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Here's the Skyrim specs:
Minimum PC Specs:
Operating System: Win XP/7/Vista (32 or 64 bit)
CPU: Dual Core 2GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Video Card: DirectX9c video card w/ 512MB RAM

Recommended PC Specs:
Operating System: Win XP/7
CPU: Quad-Core Intel/AMD CPU
Memory: 4GB RAM, 6GB Hard Drive Space
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card
Video Card: DirectX9 video card with 1GB memory. GTX 260/Radeon 4890 or higher

I'm thinking it's out of my league, but would like to hear opinions. Thanks.

I have quite a similar spec early-2008 Macbook Pro and would also be interested to know if the NVIDIA 8600M GT will run Skyrim passably.

My actual machine spec is:

2.5Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (has 6Mb level 2 cache, instead of the 3Mb in the 2.4Ghz)
6Gb RAM
GeForce 8600M GT VRAM (Total):512 MB
256Gb Crucial M4 SSD

OS for Skyrim: Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Hey guys, got an account just to answer this :)

I was wondering the same thing and finally decided to buy the game. It does run under those specs (I've got an early 2008 macbook pro). You will have to set details to low, resolution to 1280x800, then in 'advanced>details' set everything to low and uncheck 'water reflect sky' (just to get a little bit more) and in 'advanced>view distance' set 'distance object detail' to low. Leave object fade to 2 though, since it's pretty unplayable lower than 2.

The game runs a lot better than I would've though. I'd say framerates are about 25-30 when roaming cities, and get a lot lower when fighting. It is definitely playable though. At those settings, the game looks like Oblivion... I personally don't mind, since I don't have the money to upgrade my laptop anyways.

My system:
2.66 Ghz - Core 2 duo
8600M GT - 512MB VRAM
7200 RPM drive (mod)

Edit: @Ovenall - I wouldn't buy it, with 256MB of VRAM, and only 2GB of RAM it will be hell. I would at least get more RAM, but honestly it might be time for you to upgrade... :( At least your laptop is a good 4 years old, pretty sweet if your still playing games with it! :D
